Acts Chapter 16 is a fictionalized account of the life of Lydia of Thyatira. Marriage takes her to Philippi where events transpire to cause her to become a "seller of purple". In every phase of her life Lydia is seeking peace for her heart and reality in worship. She struggles with the same things women struggle with today; leaving home to live in a strange place, having a husband away for long periods of time, abortion, and becoming a business woman in a male dominated society. At the point where all looks bleakest, and after much soul searching, the coming of the Apostle Paul to Philippi with Timothy and Silvanus gives answers to much of her seeking. But still she must confront disappointment, the loss of her husband and having to carry on as a single parent. Long after Paul leaves Philippi, Lydia searches to give meaning to her life and family and finds ways to flesh out her commitment to Christ.
